Overview of Heat Pumps for Heating Purposes

The future belongs to environment-friendly heating systems. Heating-only heat pumps such as the new Dimplex models SI, WI, LI and LA do exceptionally well in this respect as they use the natural thermal energy of the environment – ground water, earth or outside air. This is a heating system that is to the advantage of the environment and the building contractor alike:

no burning of fossil energy sources

low Primary Energy Ratio (PER)

no emissions at the site

reduced energy consumption

compliance with requirements of numerous subsidy schemes

positive assessment by the Energy Efficiency Ordinance (EnEV)

Even chilly environments contain heat

No matter which heat source you are using – be it air, water or earth – Dimplex heating-only heat pumps can draw solar energy from the environment at any time in order to produce heat for a home. Also at a time when heat is most needed: in winter.

The air-to-water heat pump

(Dimplex LA/LI)

for outdoor or indoor installation use the outside air as its source of energy. This heat pump can extract heating energy from the air even at temperatures as low as -20°C.

The brine-to-water heat pump

(Dimplex SI)

uses the earth as its heat source via buried collectors and probes.

The water-to-water heat pump

(Dimplex WI)

extracts heat energy from the ground water provided it is available in sufficient quantities and quality and approval of the water authority has been obtained.

Economical use of solar heat: Dimplex heating-only heat pumps

Four functional units interact to raise the temperature of the heat extracted from the environment to a higher level:

evaporator, condenser, expansion valve and compressor.

Heating-only heat pumps transfer the heat absorbed from the environment in an evaporator to a CFC-free working fluid.
A compressor increases the pressure of the working fluid. The compression causes the temperature of the refrigerant to rise.
The heat is transferred to the heating water in a heat exchanger.
The expansion valve expands the refrigerant causing it to become cold again.

International Quality Label

All Dimplex heat pumps have been awarded an international quality label. This guarantees the highest degree of quality and safety for the operator and specialist tradesmen alike.

Test Criteria

for obtaining the international quality label have been established jointly within the context of incentive schemes in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and the independent Heat Pump Test and Training Center WPZ in Winterthur-Töss (Switzerland).
